West Ashley

Moving to West Ashley (Charleston)? Watch this First!

West Ashley is a vibrant district of Charleston that is west of the Ashley River, hence the name. Much of West Ashley is actually a part of Charleston city, while another portion is unincorporated Charleston county. Over half of the City of Charleston’s population lives in West Ashley!

West Ashley’s proximity to Folly Beach and the Charleston peninsula makes it one of the most desired suburbs. People come from all over the Charleston peninsula to jog or bike the Greenway, which is a 10 mile path that runs the length of West Ashley. The area has phenomenal restaurants and vibrant commercial districts. When you live in West Ashley, you are less than a 10 minute drive to every restaurant and grocery store imaginable.

West Ashley is a mixture of new and old neighborhoods. Some older neighborhoods are in a prime location, such as Avondale and Byrnes Downs. Shadowmoss is considered an older neighborhood (70s and 80s) but actually has a Homeowners Association due to it being a golf course community. Newer construction neighborhoods include Carolina Bay (early 2020s), Boltons Landing (late 2010s), Grand Oaks (mid/late 2000s), and Grand Bees (early 2020s).
